Watch out potential tubbies

I would be lying if I was to say that the National Government didn't perturb me with its disregard to govern the eating habits in our schools. As people hooray a cheer for the crumbling of the nanny state, they are so in love with the sound of their own voices that they don't consider the implications of such an act.

Schools are responding with the positive message that they will continue with the healthy food programme as results to date in students are noticeable...but tell me how will this change when a school is struggling for funding and a corporate food or beverage company such as Coca-Cola begins offering funding based on sales.

Are we going to rely on education to provide people with the necessary information for our children to make good choices? A government funded healthy food campaign could not compete with the marketing budget of large food and beverage corporations and it is dangerous to believe that profiteering corporations have the well being of our children at heart.

It should be highlighted that it is the educated who claim to not need government rulings to make decisions, however its the less educated that are the ones that these types of rules work well for...take Jo junior, life's not too great at home, he gets thrown a few dollars to buy lunch at school as he walks out the door, when he orders his lunch he's going to get a coke or a fatty food cause that is what he see's in the media everyday and it will make him happy and feel part of the world.

The only people that will win from this National ruling are corporations...food and beverage corporations, media corporations and lastly pharmaceutical corporations because that's where our children will be turning to when they are ill as young adults
